During the winter holidays, Myrtle Beach attracts many visitors with Christmas displays, festive tree lighting, and entertaining parades and shows. There are plenty of things for families to do and see during Christmas, not to mention delicious Southern food!
The Great Christmas Light Show is Myrtle Beach’s largest light show. The car show travels 2 miles with more than 2 million lights at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex. Entertainment includes a visit with Santa Claus, a Christmas train for children and other attractions. The exhibition is open from 17:30 to 21:30. Closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Pawleys Christmas at Island Shoppes is a family-friendly event with a visit from Santa Claus and lots of free family activities. A highlight of the festival is the tree lighting, followed by live entertainment, candy cookie decorating, letter writing to Santa and more. The island’s shops offer many gift ideas, specialty products and a variety of foods. The festival runs from 3 to 5:30 p.m., and is free to the public.

This year, the city and local chambers of commerce are trying to change that. Myrtle Beach’s first Winter Wonderland on the Beach opens the Friday after Thanksgiving.

“We have received many requests for ice skating and are excited to have an outdoor rink for the whole family this winter,” Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune said in a news release announcing the event. “We need to do this for our winter vacationers in Myrtle Beach during the off-season and it’s a great thing for the locals. Real snow on the boulevard would be a great, great thing. – A great light show for the holidays. So much business for this opportunity. Thank you.”

Winter Wonderland is located downtown on the Myrtle Beach side between Ocean Avenue and Highway 17 Business. It runs from November 26 to January 2 and is closed for Christmas.
Tickets for The Winter Wonderland at The Beach are available at the door: $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, and children 4 and under are admitted free. Ice skating costs $20 to rent skates and $15 if you bring your own. The festival is held seven days a week from 15:00 to 21:00. on weekdays and on weekends from noon to 10 p.m.
“Myrtle Beach is a destination where families want to get away this winter and add new adventures to their annual vacation plans,” Chamber Executive Director Karen Riordan said in a press release. “Along the Grand Strand, visitors will enjoy exciting light shows, events and performances that are sure to become an annual tradition.”

The Winter Wonderland Festival is here as Myrtle Beach anticipates one of its strongest years for seasonal travel, according to data tracked by the chamber. Earlier this fall, Expedia named Myrtle Beach the 7th best place to visit for Thanksgiving. And in late October, the chamber announced that vacation rental bookings for the next 60 days are above normal, up nearly 7 percent from 2019 and 2 percent from 2020.

Myrtle Beach Santacon Crawl At Myrtle Beach Concerts & Events
Beachside Winter Wonderland will transform the Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion in downtown Myrtle Beach into a holiday dreamland filled with holiday magic and twinkling lights. The new festival will have a path through the park, where you can walk along the light show, as well as an actual ice rink where you can rent skates or bring your own. Each area has different types of lighting, some with a beach theme and some with a vintage theme. Throughout the festival, there will be places where families can take photos. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-12. Children 4 and under are admitted free! Tickets can only be purchased at the event. Celebrate the magic of Christmas at the official City of Myrtle Beach Tree Lighting at Park of Hope on Carver Street in downtown Myrtle Beach. The party is free to attend and the first 100 children to arrive will receive a free holiday meal! The evening will include music, hot chocolate, cookies, photos with Santa and elves and more. Entertainment will be provided by Long Bay Theater and the Myrtle Beach High School Show Choir. The program will run from 4 pm to 6 pm. The Car Light Show features more than 2 million festive lights along the 2-mile North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex. Guests can also enjoy 30 new animated attractions and holiday programs that will shine in 2021. Santa’s Village will also be open Friday through Sunday through December. Every Christmas season, Myrtle Beach’s Ripley’s Aquarium celebrates the heritage and diversity of the United States by decorating more than 50 trees representing the country’s 55 states and territories. The South Carolina tree grows to over 18 feet tall and is favored for seashells, magnolias, golf balls and more. Visitors can test their knowledge of each state with a traditional scavenger hunt or enjoy the beauty of the many illuminated Christmas trees throughout the aquarium. This special holiday exhibit is always included in the aquarium.
